In order for CCS to gain traction, investment and public acceptance, it is paramount that the integrity of the storage site and behaviour of injected CO₂ is well understood. There is an inherent need for CO₂ storage sites to be continuously monitored in order to ensure that CO₂ is behaving as expected and is not leaking outside of containment boundaries. Monitoring continuously can serve as an early warning system to complement further investigation into potential leakage.
Further, in-depth tracking of CO₂ behaviour along with reservoir integrity monitoring during continued injection can allow for a more efficient use of natural resources. For example, analysis of the collected data can drive decisions regarding safe increases of injection rates or volumes. Such adjustments will in turn improve economic and environmental efficiency of these CO₂ operations.
At TenzorGEO, we have designed “Cuttlefish Carbon Guard”, a technology solution capable of addressing both the environmental and technological challenges. Our clients are able to safely store and secure CO₂ and to continuously monitor the integrity of the reservoir while tracking fluid velocity related changes. “Cuttlefish Carbon Guard” can aid in limiting global warming and climate change and satisfy the MMV industry’s need for continuous monitoring of reservoir integrity and spatial distribution of injected CO₂ in the reservoir.
